Feeding Kids When They Are Sick
Tips for keeping your kids comfortable and well-nourished while they’re
fighting a virus:
- Encourage plenty of rest and sufficient FLUIDS: diluted fruit juices, water, herbal teas
with honey and lemon, soup and broth are great ways to replenish fluids. - Vitamin C and antioxidant rich FRUIT may be beneficial! Fruits are also packed with
vitamins and minerals to support health and immunity and contain a good
percentage of water to help support fluid needs.- Offer a variety of soft fruits lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruit and berries.
- Slightly thawed fruits, such as blueberries or strawberries offer a cooling sensation
on the throat.
- If they have a poor appetite, try offering frequent small meals so it’s easier to digest
and will help meet their energy needs. - Avoid rich, fried, greasy foods and aim for simple starches such as rice and noodles.
- Try bananas, rice, applesauce or toast if your child is feeling queasy.
